Diversity

Our club is welcoming of all ages, genders, backgrounds and ability levels. We believe everyone can practice karate.

Diversity

Fun

We believe karate should be fun. The club is where friendships will be made and laughter is encouraged.

Fun

Discipline

Students are encouraged to develop physically and mentally through hard work, focus and passion. They are also taught to develop patience with themselves in their own training.

Discipline

Fair Play

We uphold the principle of fair play in our club. We aspire to practice solidarity, integrity, tolerance, and consistency with everyone we share the mats with on our martial arts journey.

Fair Play

Non-Competitiveness

Unlike many martial arts clubs, we are not training competitive fighters. We believe in focusing on self improvement, in being supportive of and patient with all students, and developing interpersonal skills. Most importantly, we believe both students and instructors should demonstrate humility throughout their development.

Sensei Brian Ennis

Brian Ennis began his martial arts journey in 1996 studying Kung Fu. In 2006 he began training in traditional karate (a Wadō-ryū derivative). In 2013 he set up his own club with one class a week. In the same year, he taught in the local school as part of their physical education programme.

In 2018 he set up Washi Do Karate. He currently runs 6 classes a week. He has taught kids in the local autism support group. Brian draws on his 27 years of experience to deliver an eclectic style of martial arts.
